Fall and Winter: Fall and winter bring their own charm to the Outer Banks. The big crowds are gone and long walks on the beach often have one set of foot prints - yours. September and October are warm and golden; the sea oats are full and heavy, waving over the dunes. The traffic is gone, so a trip to watch the fish come in or just to go out to dinner is a pleasure - no waiting. If fishing is your passion, the piers and the surf off of our beach have produced fantastic catches. Golf is another activity that is more pleasurable during warm days in fall and winter. There are many courses to choose from and again - no waiting. Most of the shops have 'end of the season' sales and the restaurants are happy to see you without reservations. Shells on the beach appear more plentiful. Many people - including the owners - prefer this slower season.
